Sedation Dentistry

Anxiety-Free Dentistry

Why We Would Recommend Sedation During Your Appointment?

We know that going to the dentist can be frightening for some individuals. It’s called dental phobia, and it’s something millions of Americans experience. At our practice, we use sedation to help our patients feel anxiety-free and relaxed during their treatment. If you suffer from dental phobia, our doctors may recommend IV sedation after reviewing your medical history.

Sedation Dentistry at Endodontic Associates

Sometimes Nitrous Oxide is not enough to provide a patient with the relief from anxiety that he/she needs. IV Sedation is a stronger form of sedation. If the dentist recommends this type of sedation, we would administer a liquid sedative through an IV directly into the patient’s bloodstream.

IV sedation requires the following:

  • The patient should have nothing to eat or drink for at least hours before your appointment, but regular morning medications can be taken with a small amount of water.
  • The patient must have a driver to and from appointment, as he/she will be unable to drive for the remainder of the day.
  • The patient should wear loose fitting clothing. If sleeves are present, make sure that they can be rolled up past the elbow. Contact lenses should not be worn.
  • Someone will need to stay at the office during the visit in case the patient needs assistance to the bathroom.
  • The patient is encouraged to drink plenty of fluids after the visit.
  • The patient should arrive 45 minutes prior to the scheduled appointment time.
